ATI External Event Utility EXE Module stopped working

"ATI External Event Utility EXE Module stopped working and was closed."
(A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows
will notify you if a solution is available)

This was a symptom of my Compaq Presario V5000 purchased from Wal-Mart in 2006.

This is caused when upgraded to Vista because the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M driver is not operating correctly. Windows is unable to update this automatically.

Speed up Firefox 3.5

Here’s something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Create a bootable Windows XP USB Flash Drive

I needed to repair the boot.ini in Windows XP for a NCR terminal 7458 that did not have CD-ROM drive or a flex drive (floppy). The only option I had was to try to boot off of USB. Therefore, I needed to create a bootable USB flash drive with the Windows XP setup files on them in order to get into repair the boot.ini.

Here are the resources I found to make it happen:

"the requested operation requires elevation" within Vista

You will receive this message when running a command in the command prompt in Vista if you simply goto "Start" > "Run" and then try to run a command like "ipconfig /release". The way around getting this message returned to you is to goto "Start" > "Accessories" > "Command Prompt". Right click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator".
