ATI External Event Utility EXE Module stopped working

"ATI External Event Utility EXE Module stopped working and was closed."
(A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows
will notify you if a solution is available)

This was a symptom of my Compaq Presario V5000 purchased from Wal-Mart in 2006.

This is caused when upgraded to Vista because the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M driver is not operating correctly. Windows is unable to update this automatically.

Resolution:
I had to goto http://ati.amd.com and use the driver selection box in the right had side to pull up the correct driver.

Make sure you pick the following specs:

  • Graphis
  • Your OS
  • Integrated/Motherboard (you may find other things that look like they may work for you, but if it is part of the motherboard you will need to go here)

    • The Catalyst Legacy Display Driver was the winner for me.
