ATM BNA Shutter Jam Work Orders Are False Across US

My theory:

I tried to approach this issue by playing the role of the customer.

What we as Techs find:

  • No message on screen
  • No status
  • No retracts
  • In Logs you will find a M-Status 14 and a few M-Status 29's

M-Status 14 is clearing, which takes place in preparation for a transaction.
M-Status 29 is Shutter Error.

As many of the Techs have done, you will try to test the shutter and it will never fail. I have exceeded over 175 tests on one visit.

I can recreate the faults we are called out for on any ATM using this same BNA. I have not attempted with the new models.

Final conclusion:

I believe that this is an actual fault but it is one that the system recovers from automatically. It is not a fault of the device and replacing parts will not correct this. I suspect others to be in line with this same theory, but do not have all the data to support my theory on other specific errors on the BNA shutters. For now, I feel confident that this is the situation for these specific errors.
